If Jews had sinned by rejecting Jesus, why did God still preserve them?

The survival of the Jews is indeed a miracle considering that throughout the centuries there had been many attempts to exterminate them. However, it cannot be argued that since the Jews have been preserved, it goes to show that they have not wrongly rejected the true Messiah.

The reason why the Jews are preserved is that God promised in the Bible that He would preserve them. God, however, says that if the nation of Israel sins, He will punish them. (Jeremiah 30:11)

Can we not use this alternative explanation. That while God punished the Jews for rejecting Jesus their Messiah, yet He has kept His promise to preserve them.
